Volunteering FAQ's What can I do to help Brainwave? We require a wide range of volunteers in various locations across the Country. Whether it's volunteering to marshal at an event, helping out on Reception at one of our Centres, or helping in on of our Charity Shops. If you would like to volunteer, but don't know what you would like to do, please contact us. What skills do I need? If you want to volunteer in a shop, at an event or on Reception, we ask that you are happy, helpful and willing to welcome customers and clients with courtesy and politeness. Some roles will require specific skills, please look at the volunteer role descriptions for more details. How often will I be required to volunteer? Different volunteer roles require varying commitment depending on whether it is a one-off fundraising event or a weekly shift at one of our shops or Centres. Ideally you would volunteer for the same amount of time each week so we know to expect you and can plan around your commitment. More information can be found in the role description. What will I gain from volunteering? Volunteering has amazing benefits for a number of reasons. For some, it is a change of scenery and joining a friendly team of volunteers making a true difference to children with disabilities, for others it is an additional credential for their CV which can increase their job prospects. What benefit does it have for Brainwave? Our volunteers are vital to our mission of delivering therapy of the highest quality to an increasing number of children each year, whether that is by raising funds to support then via events and our Charity Shops or answering the phone to a parent with a query at one of our Centres. What should I do if I can't make it for my volunteering one week? Please inform your Brainwave contact as soon as possible to save any unnecessary concern for your wellbeing and to enable us to plan accordingly. What training will I get? Training will be provided to ensure that you are able to complete your volunteer role comfortably and safely. This may be training on IT, till equipment or being shown how to answer the telephone. If you require any additional training, we are always happy to provide this and all you need to do is ask. What positions do you currently have available? We will always try to offer a role suited to support you. Can I volunteer if I am receiving benefits? Please check with your benefit office. What age restrictions are there? We are currently unable to offer volunteering roles to anyone under 18.
