Despite all of the hurdles this year, the annual Lymm Charity Golf Day event has gone ahead today, Friday 21 August, with great success. The annual event is hosted by former European Open Champion and BBC Commentator, Andrew Murray and the Lymm Golf Club, in aid of Brainwave. The event was kindly sponsored by Rathbones, Nuvia, Fintek and Turkish Airlines.

Early estimates calculate that this year's event has raised over £8,000! Fundraiser and event organiser, Joanne Freeman, pulled out all the stops to ensure the event could go ahead this year. Joanne said:

We carried out a thorough risk assessment and consulted with the Lymm Golf Club to see if we could ahead with this much-loved event. Luckily, golf is able to take place in a fairly Covid-19 secure way and with our added social distancing measures such as staggering the golfers and catering outdoors, the event was able to go ahead safely.

Luckily the weather held out for us, although we had a blustery start from the tail end of Storm Ellen! The golfers were not phased though and were determined to have a great day of golf and raise money for our wonderful charity.

An online auction was held with incredible lots such as Four tickets to Old Trafford with corporate hospitality and Four-ball golf at Royal Lytham St Anne’s Golf Club up for grabs. Auction lots were kindly donated by SJM Concerts, Nuvia, Stewart Golf and Royal Lytham St Anne’s Golf Club. The auction alone raised an incredible £1,900!

A raffle also took place on the day with Andy Havard being the lucky winner of two return tickets to Istanbul from Manchester, kindly donated by Turkish Airlines.

And the overall winners of the golf day were:

1st place: Team Fintek

2nd place: Team Optionis

3rd place: Team McDonald's Birchwood

Longest drive: Ben Griffin from Tilney

Nearest the Pin: Jonathan Dean from Fintek

Joanne congratulated the winners and thanked everyone for taking part:

Thank you to all of the golfers that took part and supported our charity today, and to the businesses who made the event possible. A special thank you to our wonderful volunteer, Linda Monk, who also provided all of the refreshments for the golfers.

The whole event was a brilliant team and community effort. The incredible amount of money raised will ensure we can continue supporting families with their essential therapies at home and at our Centres, as they begin to reopen.
