Derren is an extra special little guy who was born with a disease called NAIT- which basically meant that his blood platelets were not compatible with mums, leading to severe brain bleeds that resulted in acquired hydrocephalus and a visual impairment. His first 18 months in the world have comprised of numerous brain operations, medication and intervention- which recently included a consultation with Brainwave. In short, the bespoke programme and work carried out in only 2 days has, as a result, really shown in relation to Derren's progress. He is noticeably less frustrated in his attempts to communicate, and is now sitting and standing up with very little assistance. Obviously the amazing work that Brainwave continue to carry out does not come free, and although we will need thousands of pounds per year to fund Derren's ongoing therapy- we think the value is 10 fold these figures. Fundraising will not only support our family financially, but will also raise awareness for this charity and the magical changes they make to children who have suffered brain injuries. A personal huge thank you in advance to my friends who are getting their running shoes on with me: Adam Coates, uncle Paul Morgan, and Ben Hewitt.
Cheers,
Sam (Derren's Dad) x
