Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on Saturday 31 October that new restrictions are due to come in for England on Thursday 5 November, we have consulted with families and our team about a way forward for Brainwave during this new four-week lockdown period.

We are pleased to say that we will be continuing to provide essential therapies at our South East Centre in Essex and our South West Centre in Somerset throughout November and December. We will also continue to deliver our remote therapy service, Brainwave Online, through our secure NHS-approved video calling platform.

As we have been for the past few months, we will continue to create Covid-secure environments at our Centres for our families and staff. The measures we have already put in place include:

  • Only having one family in one building per day.
  • A one-way system throughout all our buildings along with social distancing markers.
  • Temperature checks on arrival.
  • Hand sanitising stations available across the Centres.
  • PPE provided to staff and families – masks, shields, aprons and gloves.
  • A regular deep cleaning
  • Therapists working in separate ‘bubbles’ to reduce the amount of contact between staff.
  • Limited number of staff on-site, with many working from home.

We are committed in continuing to create a safe environment for the families we support. We respect that families may not want to visit our Centres during this time and we would like to explore Brainwave Online with you as an alternative.

Email us

For those families that would still like to visit our Centres for an assessment, we would ask that you adhere to the following:

  • Rescheduling visits to our Centres if you and/or a family member are displaying Covid-19 symptoms. Brainwave Online may be an option for you instead.

  • Consider the distance you will be travelling. We are not encouraging families to travel long distances to our Centres during this time. You should be able to travel to and from the Centre comfortably within a day and not require an overnight stay. Mixing of households is not permitted and guest accommodation providers such as hotels and B&Bs are only available in specific circumstances during the lockdown period, for example, accommodation for work purposes. Further details are on the Government website HERE

  • If you are living in an area that was previously under Tier Three local lockdown measures, we would ask that you contact the Centre you were due to attend in advance of travelling.

Hydrotherapy Pool

Our Hydrotherapy Pool will not be available for use from Thursday 5 November until at least Wednesday 2 December. We have informed the baby and toddler swimming groups that hire out the facility so they can make suitable arrangements with the families that book with them.

Our Retail Team were making incredible progress in refitting and reopening a number of our retail shops in the South West.

However, in line with the new Government restrictions for England, all non-essential shops are required to close from Thursday 5 November and therefore all of our shops will close on Wednesday 4 November at 4pm.

We hope to reopen our retail shops on Thursday 3 December and will release updates closer to the time as the situation progresses.

We want to thank all Brainwave team members both volunteers and paid staff who have worked tirelessly, under extremely difficult circumstances this year. They have been creative, positive, and flexible, going the ‘extra mile’ which has ensured we are able to continue delivering essential therapies throughout this new period of lockdown.

We also want to thank our families and supporters who have been patient with us whilst we have implemented new measures in our Centres and shops. Please continue supporting us throughout the run-up to Christmas and above all, please take care and stay safe.
