Brainwave service provision in the South East of England

Once again, we find ourselves in extremely challenging times and we hope that you and your family are keeping safe and well.

The pandemic and subsequent restrictions continue to have a significant impact on the families we support, our service delivery and our finances.

With that in mind, we would like to provide you with an update about our service provision from our South East Centre.

Whilst we continue to work hard to maximise all opportunities available, we have also needed to review our costs. Currently, a significant part of the money we need to raise is for the rent and associated costs of running our Centres.

We have been negotiating with suppliers  and landlords to reduce these costs and we have had some success with this. However, the increasing costs of maintaining a large Centre in the South East has become unsustainable for us. Therefore, we took the difficult decision to exercise the break clause in our lease and  vacated the premises on 1 February 2021. If we had not taken this decision now, the next opportunity for us to do so wouldn’t have been for another three years.

Sadly, members of our South East Therapy Team have decided to move on from Brainwave too. We are very sad to see them go but want to take this opportunity to thank them for the incredible work they have carried out whilst with Brainwave – they have impacted many children’s lives for the better and we know that they will continue to make a difference in their next roles.

Before we vacated the premises, we had identified a more cost-effective base, however regrettably this fell through. With this and the need to recruit, we have decided to take a step back, start afresh and reach out to our families to establish what they require from our services in the South East and how we can best serve them in the region going forward.

Whilst we are not able to offer face-to-face therapy in the South East for the time being, we are offering families virtual reassessments (and in some cases initial assessments) through Brainwave Online. We have reduced the financial contribution by 20%, to provide  as much support as we can during these challenging times.

As part of our commitment to ensuring that our services are as family-led as possible, we are inviting feedback as to how we could/should provide services in the future and this will help to inform our plans for the South East.

Our families can seek additional support from our Family Facilitators through our closed Facebook group or by contacting them directly:

If you are one of our many supporters in the South East, firstly, thank you for supporting Brainwave. We are still very much committed to helping transform the lives of children with disabilities across the UK, including families located in the South East of England.

We will update both our families and supporters as things progress with face-to-face provision. In the meantime, if you need to  contact us at all please send any correspondence to our South West Centre:

Thank you for your patience and continued support during these challenging times.
