BRAINWAVE FUNDRAISING PROJECTS 2008

Therapy Staff

Brainwave employs fifteen therapists in the UK including physiotherapists, teachers and a peripatetic music therapist. They support over 400 children. Brainwave offers personalised therapy programmes to children up to the age of twelve who have a genetic condition, brain injury or Developmental Delay. Our therapists, who specialise in both physical and cognitive exercises, are highly accomplished in achieving outstanding results

Please help Brainwave to meet their salary bill by contributing towards this essential cost. Here are a few examples:

Project : To support the salary costs, activities and training of our therapists
       Senior Physiotherapist        £30,000
  Junior Physiotherapist   £25,000
  Special Needs Teacher   £21,000

Regional Family Co-ordinators

The parents of children following a Brainwave Programme often feel isolated, have a lack self esteem and experience difficulties at home. The impact of a disabled child arriving within an otherwise 'functioning' family can often be disastrous for relationships within the home and externally. A parent, who had career aspirations, may suddenly face the long term implications of full time care of their child. Siblings react adversely to the lack of attention, previously given. All these issues can be relieved by having the support of a regional family coordinator calling regularly to the home. Brainwave is expanding its national network of regional coordinators but needs your financial support, since this service is provided free of charge to the families.

Project : To support the part time salary costs, activities and training of a Regional Co-ordinator        £8,500

Bridgwater Therapy Centre overheads

The Charity's two Centres in Somerset and Essex provide excellent facilities to enable the therapists and parents to work together for the benefit of the children. Inevitably, the running costs, utility bills and equipment amount to a significant sum every year.

Project : To support the therapy centre overheads        £15,000

Therapy tables, physio balls and switch lending Library

This project links directly with the delivery of the Programmes. Families of course have varying needs, both personal and financial, and the Charity is committed to helping every child reach their potential. The equipment library enables Brainwave to provide appropriate aids, to ensure that parents, on returning home, start the Programme immediately. This reflects the Charity's Equal Opportunities Policy and sets it apart from other providers in terms of its provision and holistic approach.

Project : To equip this library and deliver the equipment to family homes        £125 per child or
£30,000 annual budget

Hydrotherapy Pool

Hydrotherapy is a fun and effective medium in which the properties of water are used to increase strength and promote flexibility. All children need to experience active movement to develop and for some disabled children this may be the only environment in which total independence can be achieved. Brainwave's hydrotherapy pool not only helps children following a Brainwave Programme but is also available to disabled children and adults from the local community, including a Special School in Bridgwater.

Project : maintaining this facility        £10,000 per annum.

Media and Advertising

To ensure as many of our potential family clients are made aware of what Brainwave can provide, and to enable potential donors and supporters to be as informed as possible, the Charity needs to invest in an ongoing PR campaign and regularly update its promotional material and web site. The use of 'adwords' to direct web enquiries to Brainwave's site has proven to be an especially useful tool as most of or families now use the internet as their first source of information. Contributions towards the following are sought:

Projects:   Adword campaign to ensure Brainwave's web site is seen
Promotional material
    £3,500
£5,000

Office equipment

Much of the office equipment is old and does not meet modern standards. A programme of phased replacement is necessary at an average of £300 per office item.

Project Cost :        £5,000

Any level of contribution towards these projects would be so much appreciated. Thank you.

DOWN SYNDROME TESTIMONIAL - EMMA

I think Brainwave is brilliant. I'd been looking for this type of help, and although it took me three years, I know I've found it.

The therapists are fantastic; they are so supportive. At the Initial Assessment, they really gave us hope and made us feel there is something we can do to help Emma. They were there to help us, and to teach us how to help Emma.

So many people you see suggest that you do a bit of this, or that you do that, it can become quite mind-boggling. To have a clear and structured programme written down in a simple list that you know is addressing all her areas of development, is brilliant. You know then that you're doing as much as you can.

Although Emma had just taken a few steps when we started Brainwave a couple of months ago, I still can't quite get my head around seeing her walking about now. We started with working on her balance, and now she's doing so well.
