The Brainwave Programme is aimed at achieving progress in all areas: physical, cognitive and developmental
This integrated approach ensures the development of a child's sensory,
communication and social skills will be incorporated into the Programme
wherever appropriate.
Brainwave is very grateful for the generous financial support of the
Cheyne Charity for Children with Cerebral Palsy.

| We are here to help you and your child |
The Brainwave Programme rests on the theory of
neuroplasticity and our qualified and experienced staff are drawn from the mainstream fields of physiotherapy, psychology and education. All Brainwave therapists receive additional training in cognitive and communication techniques
Following a telephone dialogue with one of our therapists, and request for medical information about your child, families are invited to benefit from the Centre's full facilities during the two-day Initial Assessment Visit.
During this visit, your child is assessed by a team of therapists, who design a daily Exercise Programme which is specifically suited to your child. This Programme is fully explained and demonstrated to parents and carers to ensure they learn how to carry out the exercises properly, in what order and for how long to ensure they have full understanding of how to help the child develop. No family is expected to carry out more than 10 hours of therapy a week
The practising of the exercises is recorded for your use at home, supported by a printed Exercise Sheet for reference, and all equipment required is provided. When needed, equipment can be despatched to your family home immediately on departure from the Centre.
Reassessment visits take place every four-six months for new Programmes to be designed to allow for further progress.
Ongoing support is provided by our therapy team via phone calls, emails and reassessment visits. Our Regional Family Co-ordinators provide strong local support for as long as your family wishes and they offer wide-ranging help to allow you time and energy to focus on your child's development.
The brain is a mass of different neurons (nerve cells) which
evolve into pathways that make lots of connections, (sometimes called neural pathways),
with each idea or memory travelling along its own path.
Whenever we do something new, we create a new neural pathway.
As we repeat that action, we strengthen that neural pathway,
just as when a path is trodden across a field.
This ability of the brain to reorganise and develop new neural pathways,
allows the brain to be retrained to carry out new functions through appropriate and
regular stimulation through specific movement and sensory experience

DOWN SYNDROME TESTIMONIAL - EMMA
I think Brainwave is brilliant. I'd been looking for this type of help, and although it took me three years, I know I've found it.
The therapists are fantastic; they are so supportive. At the Initial Assessment, they really gave us hope and made us feel there is something we can do to help Emma. They were there to help us, and to teach us how to help Emma.
So many people you see suggest that you do a bit of this, or that you do that, it can become quite mind-boggling. To have a clear and structured programme written down in a simple list that you know is addressing all her areas of development, is brilliant. You know then that you're doing as much as you can.
Although Emma had just taken a few steps when we started Brainwave a couple of months ago, I still can't quite get my head around seeing her walking about now. We started with working on her balance, and now she's doing so well.
