Every child is unique and it is important to our staff to allow sufficient time to listen and hear every family's individual situation, to discuss their child's needs and the family's hopes and expectations for their child.

Family Fundraising

Every child that is accepted on Programme requires funding of about £3,000 p.a.

We maintain a constant and vigorous fundraising campaign therefore to ensure that we're able to accept as many children as possible each year. In 2008 our target is to help 450 children.

Many of our families, having seen the benefits of the Brainwave Programme, often want to support us in our fundraising activities. We encourage this and give families all the support they require to put on a successful event or participate in a sponsored challenge organized by themselves or a third party. We have close contacts with event companies who can offer exciting overseas challenges, places in marathons or organized expeditions within the UK. The proceeds raised will be allocated to your child's therapy Programme costs.

The amazing enthusiasm of families and friends in organizing events is always staggering:

One family organised a fabulous 40th birthday party for mum, staging the entire evening on the 'Titanic' theme. At mum's request, everyone who attended made donations to Brainwave rather than give her birthday presents. A fantastic evening resulted and almost the full £3,000 annual cost of the Programme was raised.

Grandparents have also made similar wonderful gestures when their families have honoured their Golden Wedding Anniversaries.

One fifteen-year-old girl, whose sister is following a Brainwave Programme, organised a 'High School Musical' and raised an amazing £2,000 through the concert.

Marathons, Cake-baking, Abseiling, Coffee Mornings, Treks, Fashion Shows and many, many other ideas are taken up with huge enthusiasm by people keen to have a good time, who love encouraging others to do the same, and enjoy doing it for a good cause.

Our gratitude never diminishes. Neither does the gratitude of families undergoing financial hardship with a child that needs our help.

DOWN SYNDROME TESTIMONIAL - EMMA

I think Brainwave is brilliant. I'd been looking for this type of help, and although it took me three years, I know I've found it.

The therapists are fantastic; they are so supportive. At the Initial Assessment, they really gave us hope and made us feel there is something we can do to help Emma. They were there to help us, and to teach us how to help Emma.

So many people you see suggest that you do a bit of this, or that you do that, it can become quite mind-boggling. To have a clear and structured programme written down in a simple list that you know is addressing all her areas of development, is brilliant. You know then that you're doing as much as you can.

Although Emma had just taken a few steps when we started Brainwave a couple of months ago, I still can't quite get my head around seeing her walking about now. We started with working on her balance, and now she's doing so well.
