Family Fete and Open Day - South West Centre

The Brainwave Family Fete and Open Day that was held at our South West Centre on Saturday 6th June 2009 was a great success with approximately 300 people attending the site to enjoy the activities provided!

The Event was opened by BBC Spotlights' Clinton Rogers who used Mike Sertin's (Trustee) tie in place of the usual ribbon. Katherine Crouch also attended the event and gave two wonderful talks about the benefits of our Sensory Garden for the children who attend the Centre.

"Brainwave would like to thank everyone who attended the Family Fete and Open Day" said Alexis Hawkes, Event Organiser.

And we would like to thank Cazzjazz for the music, all the local companies who supported us as well as the other charities who took a stand. These include: Cotleigh Brewery, Open Bottles, Sedgemoor Rotary Club, National Autistic Society, Bridgwater-Marsa Twinning Society, Crusaders Carnival Club, Relate, Lamb Inn North Petherton, Notaro Windows, Jual Embroidery, Junction 24, Argos Distribution Centre for providing us with Car parking facilities, West Country Garage, Michael Burbridge Creative Design and Print, RT Signs, Highways Agency, Mid Somerset Catering Hire, JH Variety Performers and Laura's School of Dance. Plus, we would also like to thank Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Avon and Somerset Fire Service for attending.

If you would be interested in participating in any of our future events, please contact Alexis Hawkes on 01278 726923.

FAMILIES

"We were going into the unknown and came away with so much hope and encouragement for Leia. You all made the family so very welcome. Already Leia has made progress working on her exercises. We look forward to when we see you again in April."

DOWN SYNDROME TESTIMONIAL - EMMA

I think Brainwave is brilliant. I'd been looking for this type of help, and although it took me three years, I know I've found it.

The therapists are fantastic; they are so supportive. At the Initial Assessment, they really gave us hope and made us feel there is something we can do to help Emma. They were there to help us, and to teach us how to help Emma.

So many people you see suggest that you do a bit of this, or that you do that, it can become quite mind-boggling. To have a clear and structured programme written down in a simple list that you know is addressing all her areas of development, is brilliant. You know then that you're doing as much as you can.

Although Emma had just taken a few steps when we started Brainwave a couple of months ago, I still can't quite get my head around seeing her walking about now. We started with working on her balance, and now she's doing so well.
