Open Day on Friday 10th July 2009

A day of sunshine at the SE Centre

Brainwave's South East Centre in Witham, Essex held an Open Day on Friday, 10th July. We wanted to raise awareness of the therapy work that we do with children and so invited members of the public, local groups and organisations to come and see us and to meet some of our families. We were very fortunate that the weather stayed fine so that people were able to go out into our garden and see our garden toys.

Over 30 people came to see us and were given a tour of the Centre. Our visitors included potential new families, local dignitaries, business contacts, The High Sheriff of Essex, the Chairman of Braintree Council, the Deputy Mayor of Witham, the President of Witham Lions Club and ten members of Witham Rotary Club. The latter presented us with a very welcome cheque for £800 that they had raised at their Jazz Concert. We were also delighted that Dee Gordon, an Essex author, who has written about famous Essex women, attended and conducted a book signing with donations going to the Charity.

We would like to thank everyone who attended our S.E. Centre Open Day, especially our families, who spoke to the visitors, and volunteers from Goldman Sachs, for taking the time and effort to come along and support us and helping to make this Open Day a very pleasant and successful event. If you would like to be kept up to date with SE activities, please contact us on 01376 503608; email:

FAMILIES

"I will always be grateful to Brainwave for what they did for Aoife and me. They took the time to listen and showed me ways that I could help my daughter. They gave me the confidence that I could do something to help and was not just waiting for something to happen."

DOWN SYNDROME TESTIMONIAL - EMMA

I think Brainwave is brilliant. I'd been looking for this type of help, and although it took me three years, I know I've found it.

The therapists are fantastic; they are so supportive. At the Initial Assessment, they really gave us hope and made us feel there is something we can do to help Emma. They were there to help us, and to teach us how to help Emma.

So many people you see suggest that you do a bit of this, or that you do that, it can become quite mind-boggling. To have a clear and structured programme written down in a simple list that you know is addressing all her areas of development, is brilliant. You know then that you're doing as much as you can.

Although Emma had just taken a few steps when we started Brainwave a couple of months ago, I still can't quite get my head around seeing her walking about now. We started with working on her balance, and now she's doing so well.
