Following the Award Winners concert at Wellington School in November 2013 we were approached by John & Carol Carpenter Training of Carol Carpenter Training who were so impressed by what they heard about Brainwave that the company adopted us as their Charity of the Year.  Regular support from companies like this is very important to Brainwave and helps ensure we can offer on-going support to the children we see.  We are most grateful for all their support over this year.

The Amycrofters Folk Dance Group

We are delighted to announce that The Amycrofters Folk Dance Group have nominated Brainwave as their Charity of the Year for 2014. The duo from Honiton have already started fundraising and in December made an incredible £776 from their 3 events; official busking outside our Ottery St Mary and Honiton Shops and a collection outside Tesco in Honiton. This was a great boost to the two shops who have also been running raffles with some great donated gifts from the band. With more events planned, please keep up to date on their website www.amycrofters.co.uk The photo shows the band with some of the staff outside the Brainwave Shop in Honiton.

Aviation CARE

There is nothing like a bit of a challenge and the team from Aviation CARE like one of those. So it was that around 30 intrepid cyclist set out on a speedy cycle ride from RNAS Yeovilton to Lymington in the New Forest – with one mangled bike but, thankfully not a serious injury to the rider – they arrived tired but positive. A number of them had to remain positive as the next morning they were running in the New Forest Half Marathon. In high temperatures for the time of year, they battled to the finish line. Having raised over £7000 for Brainwave in the process they have, once again, lent considerable support to us for which we are so very grateful. A presentation was made to SW Community Fundraiser at their aircraft base in Yeovil.

 TOUGHMUDDER CHALLENGE

Highlanders take on the Tough Mudder What do you get if you cross Total Wipeout, Gladiators, Scottish weather and the Special Forces? You get TOUGH MUDDER SCOTLAND 2013. Add into the mix some hardy highlanders who all want to support two fa…ntastic charities and you have a group of Ullapool’s finest heading off to Edinburgh on the 24th of August to participate in what event organisers describe as: PROBABLY THE TOUGHEST EVENT ON THE PLANET. Tough Mudder is ” A hardcore 12 mile obstacle course designed by the Special forces to test each contestants all round strength, stamina, determination and camaraderie. Only 78% of contestants successfully complete each Challenge, made up of 25 military based obstacles including ice water, electrocution, fire, underground tunnels, 12 foot walls, lots and lots of MUD, and much much more. The challenge is a group effort where team work means everything and completion time means nothing… IF YOU GET TO THE END YOU HAVE DONE WELL! Mudder is no ordinary event: it pushes participants further than they have ever gone before, makes them find out what they are made of and calls for mental grit and sheer determination. But why are they doing it? It’s a great opportunity to raise some money for two very important charities that support friends and families in the Ullapool area. LUPUS UK and BRAINWAVE. These charities help people who’s daily lives can parallel the skills required for Tough Mudder. So in support for not only the team heading off into mudfields but for people in your community we ask you dig deep. Unfortunately there is no way to set up a justgiving page that splits the money equally between 2 charities so we ask that you try and split your donation by visiting www.justgiving.com/teams/toughmudderbrainwavelupus
You can also text donate either £1,£2,£5 or £10 using your mobile phone To donate to Lupus text-              MUDR60 £5 to 70070 To donate to Brainwave text-     MUDR50 £5 to 70070 Taking part are: Christopher Urquhart (tanner) ,Sean Stewart, Andrew Inglis, Daniel Farquhar, Kyle Maclean, Matthew Haughey,Chris Morrison, Eoin Fyfe, Darren Gordon, Kate Forsyth, Struan Macrae, Dara’ McAllister,Matt Edwards, David Mackay, Levi Douglas, Danielle Douglas, Craig Mackay, Dan Connel, Adele Mackenzie, Jamie McFadyen.
